In the lower part of the Sanctuary is the pongo de Mainique, a natural setting of overwhelming beauty, a narrowing of the Urubamba River formed by two immense rock walls in which waterfalls, butterflies, macaws, and fish abound. In 2021, UNESCO recognized the Megantoni National Sanctuary as the Core Zone of the Avireri-Vraem Biosphere Reserve
How to get to the “AYLLURUNA” Experiential Tourism Center?
There are several options. You can travel in your own van or hire a private mobility etc, the routes are the same, see below:
Once in the Imperial City of Cusco – Peru, you have to go to the interprovincial bus stop that leave from Cusco to Quillabamba, on Av. Antonio Lorena – Santiago, the recommended times to travel is on the day at 8am this will give you time to enjoy the amazing views and landscapes. Travel time 5/6 hours.
You arrive at the City of Quillabamba and you are going to buy tickets to the Megantoni terminal, the buses leave at 2am or 2pm. It is advisable to travel at 2am, when you board, tell the driver that you are going to get off at the "Capiso" bus stop in Malanquiato.
